Sunglasses

An important part of eye and vision care is wearing sunglasses. At Eye & Contact Lens Center, serving Renton and Kirkland, WA, we fit patients for sunglasses and offer prescription sunglasses.

Finding Prescription Sunglasses

When you get a routine eye exam at our facility, our optometrist will look for any refractive errors and determine your prescription. If you decide to wear glasses, you can use the same prescription in your sunglasses. Prescription sunglasses allow you to see clearly while still protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays.

Using Prescription Eyewear Outdoors

By having one or more pairs of prescription sunglasses, you don't have to pack around additional pairs of sunglasses, purchase oversized sunglasses to cover your regular glasses, or worry that a clip-on set might come off at a crucial moment.

Whether you're playing sports, hiking, camping, sailing, climbing, attending an outdoor event, or taking a drive, prescription sunglasses are essential eyewear to help protect your eyes.

Prescription Sunglasses Offer UV Protection

The sun emits ultraviolet light spectrums that we don't visibly register, but they are still absorbed by our eyes. Overexposure to ultraviolet light can wear down the eyes, weaken vision over time, and cause eye fatigue. These rays even cause things like cataracts and other eye diseases that may not be reversible later in life.

Prescription sunglasses provide more UV protection than just wearing a hat or standing in the shade. Ultraviolet light protection is even necessary on cloudy and overcast days, as ultraviolet light penetrates through clouds.

Prescription Sunglasses as Essential Eye Care

Prescription sunglasses do more than just provide UV protection. Here are some other convenient benefits of prescription sunglasses.

  • Reduce the risk of cataracts or slow down macular degeneration.
  • Make it easier for people with light sensitivity to see in bright sunlight.
  • No need for contacts, another pair of eyeglasses, or other eyewear.

Other Sunglasses Options for Eye Care

Not all sunglasses are the same. Talk to our optometry specialist to find out which options are suitable for you. If prescription sunglasses are not an option at this time, regular, oversized sunglasses are still available. Other options include clip-on sets or wrap-around kinds. Wrap-around sunglasses are more secure for playing sports.
